 Sleeping Beauty

 

Once upon a time, a beautiful princess was born.

 

Six good fairies gave the princess gifts.

 

The evil fairy cursed the princess with an evil spell.

 

A good fairy undid some of the evil spell.

 

The king ordered all of the spindles in the kingdom burned.

 

When the princess was 16, she pricked her finger and fell asleep.

 

The good fairy put everyone in the castle to sleep.

 

After one hundred years, a prince saw the castle.

 

The prince went into the castle and kissed Sleeping Beauty.

 

Sleeping beauty and everyone in the castle woke up.

 

The princess and princess were married and lived happily ever after.

 

 Goldilocks and the Three Bears

 

Once there were three bears.

 

One day, the bears went on their morning walk.

 

Goldilocks went into the bear’s house.

 

She tasted the porridge.

 

She ate all of the baby bear’s porridge.

 

She sat in the chairs.

 

She broke the baby bear’s chair.

 

She laid down on the beds.

 

She fell asleep in the baby bear’s bed.

 

The bears came home.

 

The bears saw that someone had been eating their porridge.

 

The bears saw that someone had been sitting in their chairs.

 

The bears saw that someone had been sleeping in in their beds.

 

The bears found Goldilocks asleep in the baby bear’s bed.

 

Goldilocks woke up.

 

Goldilocks jumped out of the window and ran home.

 

* Hansel and Gretel

 

A woodcutter had two children named Hansel and Gretel.

 

The woodcutter said, “There is no more money.”

 

The mean stepmother said, “We must take the children into the forest and lose them.”

 

Hansel was listening and heard what his stepmother said.

 

Hansel filled his pockets with pebbles.

 

The family walked into the woods.

 

Hansel dropped pebbles on the path into the woods.

 

The father and stepmother left the children at the fire.

 

The children followed the dropped pebbles back to their house.

 

The next day, the family went into the woods again.

 

Hansel dropped pieces of bread on the path.

 

The children could not find the crumbs to get home. The birds had eaten them.

 

The next morning, a bird led the children to a cottage made of bread, candy, and cake.

 

The old lady who lived in the cottage fed the children.

 

The old lady put Hansel in a cage.

 

Every day the old lady felt Hansel’s finger to see if he was getting fatter.

 

Hansel put out a chicken bone instead of his finger.

 

Gretel pushed the old lady into the oven.

 

Gretel let Hansel out of the cage.

 

The children found a big treasure box.

 

The children found their house.

 

They hugged their father and showed him the treasures.

 

They lived happily ever after.

 

* Jack and the Beanstalk

 

Jack took Milky White to town.

 

Jack traded Milky White for beans.

 

Jack’s mother threw the beans out.

 

A huge beanstalk grew.

 

Jack climbed the beanstalk.

 

The Giant’s wife fed Jack breakfast.

 

The Giant fell asleep.

 

Jack took the Giant’s gold.

 

Jack climbed the beanstalk again.

 

Jack took the hen that lays the golden egg.

 

Jack climbed the beanstalk again.

 

Jack took the golden harp.

 

The Giant chased Jack.

 

Jack cut down the beanstalk.

 

* The Lion and the Mouse

 

The lion fell asleep under a tree

 

A mouse was playing and woke up the lion.

 

The lion caught the mouse.

 

The mouse asked the lion to set him free.

 

The lion set the mouse free.

 

A few days later, the lion fell into a trap.

 

The mouse heard the lion roar.

 

The mouse found the lion and chewed on the ropes.

 

The mouse chewed through all the ropes and the lion was free.

 

The lion and the mouse became good friends.

 

* Rapunzel

 

A wife was going to have a baby.

 

The wife wanted some rampion.

 

The wife became sick because she could not have any rampion.

 

The husband brought the wife some rampion from the witches’ garden.

 

She ate it all.

 

The husband went back to the garden to get some more rampion.

 

The witch saw him.

 

The witch told the man he had to give her his baby when it was born.

 

Rapunzel was born and the witch locked her up in a tower.

 

The witch climbed up Rapunzel’s hair to get up in the tower.

 

A prince heard Rapunzel sing. He tried to get up to the top of the tower.

 

The prince saw the witch climb up Rapunzel’s hair.

 

The prince climbed up Rapunzel’s hair.

 

The prince asked Rapunzel to marry him.

 

The prince brought Rapunzel silk to make into a rope so she could get down from the tower.

 

The witch found out about the prince.

 

The witch cut Rapunzel’s hair and took her into the woods.

 

The prince climbed into the tower and jumped out when he saw the witch.

 

The prince hurt his eyes and could not see.

 

The prince heard Rapunzel sing and went to her.

 

Rapunzel cried tears into the Prince’s eyes and he could see again.

 

They lived a long and happy life.

 

* Little Red Riding Hood

 

Once upon a time, a little girl’s grandmother gave her a red riding cape.

 

Everyone called the girl Little Red Riding Hood.

 

Little Red Riding Hood went to take lunch to her grandmother.

 

LIttle Red Riding Hood met a wolf.

 

The wolf said he would race LIttle Red Riding Hood to her grandmother’s house.

 

The big bad wolf got to Grandmother’s house first and attacked her.

 

Grandmother hid in the closet.

 

The wolf dressed up as Grandmother and got into her bed.

 

Little Red Riding Hood came to Grandmother’s house.

 

LIttle Red Riding Hood saw the wolf’s big ears, eyes, and teeth.

 

The wolf attacked LIttle Red Riding Hood and she hid in the closet with her grandmother.

 

The huntsman came and caught the wolf.

 

The huntsman opened the closet with his ax.

 

Little Red Riding Hood, her grandmother, and the huntsman ate lunch.

 

LIttle Red Riding Hood went home.

 

* The Three Little Pigs

 

Once upon a time, there were three little pigs.

 

The first little pig built his house out of straw.

 

The wolf blew the straw house down.

 

The second little pig built his house out of sticks.

 

The wolf blew the stick house down.

 

The third little pig built his house out of bricks.

 

The wolf could not blow the brick house down.

 

The wolf asked the third little pig to meet him to pick turnips.

 

The little pig went early to get the turnips.

 

The wolf became angry.

 

The wolf asked the little pig to meet him to pick apples.

 

The little pig went early. When the wolf came, he threw an apple at him and ran away.

 

The wolf asked the little pig to go to the fair.

 

The little pig left early and rolled home in a butter churn.

 

The wolf because very angry and said he would eat the pig.

 

The wolf came down the chimney.

 

The wolf fell into a big pot of hot water.

 

The little pigs lived happily ever after.

 

* The Tortoise and the Hare

 

The animals were playing together.

 

The hare told the tortoise that he was slow.

 

The tortoise asked the hare to race.

 

The fox told the hare and the tortoise the rules of the race.

 

The fox barked, “Go,” and the race started.

 

The hare went fast and went way ahead of the tortoise. The tortoise went slow and steady.

 

The hare stopped and took a nap.

 

The tortoise did not stop. The tortoise passed the hare.

 

The hare woke up.

 

The hare ran as fast as he could to catch up to the tortoise.

 

The hare could not pass the tortoise.

 

The tortoise won the race!

 

* The Breman Town Musicians

 

Once upon a time, there was a donkey.

 

The donkey ran away to become a musician.

 

The donkey met a dog.

 

The dog went with the donkey.

 

They met a cat.

 

The cat went with the donkey and the dog.

 

They met a rooster.

 

The rooster went with the donkey, dog, and cat.

 

The animals went to a house that had robbers inside.

 

The animals surprised the robbers and scared them away.

 

The robbers came back and went into the dark house.

 

The animals scared the robbers again!

 

The robbers never came back.

 

The animals lived together in the house and played music.

 

* Cinderella

 

Once upon a time there was a beautiful girl named Cinderella

 

She had two ugly stepsisters.

 

Cinderella had to do all of the work.

 

Once day an invitation came for a party at the Prince’s palace.

 

Cinderella helped her sisters get dressed for the party.

 

Cinderella said she wished she could go to the ball.

 

Cinderella’s fairy godmother came.

 

Cinderella brought a pumpkin, six mice, a rat, and six lizards to her fairy godmother.

 

The fairy godmother changed them into a coach, horses, a coachman, and footmen.

 

Then fairy godmother dressed Cinderella for the ball.

 

Cinderella went to the ball and danced with the prince.

 

Cinderella hurried to leave before midnight and lost her shoe.

 

The prince tried to find Cinderella.

 

He took Cinderella’s shoe from house to house.

 

The shoe fit Cinderella!

 

Cinderella married the prince!

 

* The Boy Who Cried Wolf

 

Once upon a time, there was a shepherd boy.

 

The shepherd boy had to keep the sheep safe from the wolves.

 

The shepherd boy played with his dog and played his flute.

 

The shepherd boy wanted to do something fun.

 

He shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!”

 

The villagers ran to help the boy.

 

The boy laughed at the villagers.

 

The shepherd boy became bored again.

 

He again shouted “Wolf! Wolf!’

 

The villagers ran to help the boy and the boy laughed at them again.

 

A wolf came to kill the sheep and the boy cried, “Wolf! Wolf!”

 

No one came to help the boy. The villagers thought the boy was playing a trick again.

 

The wolf killed many sheep.
