Vertebrates
![]()
I
chose vertebrates as the first
science topic. The topic of animals is an easy, concrete subject for most kids
and Eric had had plenty of prior exposure to learning about animals. Rather
than learn about unrelated animals piecemeal and incoherently, I chose to start
with teaching the various groups of vertebrates and then proceed to teaching
examples of each group in depth. During the study of an individual example from
each group, subtopics such as adaptations, habitats, migration, life cycles,
hibernation, and camouflage were introduced and studied.
Animals
will also be studied in geography.
As each continent is studied, the animals and biomes of each continent
will be introduced.

Elementary School This site is simply fantastic and I used many of their
science materials. I printed out their reading comprehension sheets and other
materials on vertebrates, matter, adaptations, energy, and the solar
system. Their materials included
comprehension questions, writing summaries, animal comparisons, and doing
simple guided research.
